Packing Checklist for First-time Pilgrims

A packing list for first-time pilgrims. Tick each item as you pack it.

Documents & money

• Passport (valid for at least 6 months) and photocopies
• Umrah visa / e-visa printout
• Flight tickets and hotel vouchers
• Vaccination certificates required by the Saudi authorities (e.g. meningitis ACWY)
• Passport-size photographs
• Aadhaar / ID card copy
• Saudi riyals in cash and a travel card
• Emergency contacts and your Al Baitul Ateeq group leader's number

Ihram & clothing

• Men: 2 sets of Ihram sheets and an Ihram belt
• Women: comfortable modest clothing, abayas and scarves
• Comfortable sandals or slippers for Tawaf and Sa'i
• Light clothes for the day and a light jacket for air-conditioned places
• Socks, undergarments and nightwear

Health & toiletries

• Unscented soap, shampoo and toiletries (perfume is not allowed in Ihram)
• Your personal medicines with prescriptions
• Pain relief, ORS sachets, plasters and a small first-aid kit
• Face masks and hand sanitiser
• Unscented sunscreen, lip balm and petroleum jelly for the feet
• Nail clipper and small scissors (for Taqsir)

Ibadah

• Pocket Qur'an and a duas booklet
• Small prayer mat
• Tasbih or counter for Tawaf and Sa'i rounds

Useful extras

• Mobile phone, charger and power bank
• Universal travel adapter
• Refillable water bottle
• Small bag for the Haram
• Shoe bag (to keep footwear with you inside the masjid)
• Umbrella for the sun (men in Ihram must not cover the head)
